Nov. 21--Police have issued an alert after a man tried to lure a 12-year-old boy into his van on the Northwest Side.

The man drove up to the boy at West Argyle Street and North Kenneth Avenue in the North Mayfair neighborhood around 4 p.m. Thursday, according to a statement from Police News Affairs.

The man offered the boy candy and tried to talk to him, but the boy ran away, according to the statement.

The man was described as between 65 and 70, with a pasty white complexion, a white mustache and red discoloration on his neck. He spoke broken English and wore a brown jacket and a black skull cap, the statement said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Area North detectives at 312-744-8261.
