BRIEF: Police warn of carjackings on South Side

Nov. 29--Police are warning South Side residents after a string of armed carjackings in the Kenwood and Oakland neighborhoods earlier this month.

Three separate carjackings have happened since mid-November, police said in a statement. In each instance, a man, 18 to 22 years old, approached someone on the street, pulled out a handgun and demanded property and the person's vehicle, according to the statement.

Each carjacking happened in the early morning hours, police said. The first robbery happened about 12:20 a.m. Nov. 15 in the 1200 block of East 47th Street. Another happened about 12:30 a.m. Nov. 16 in the 4200 block of South Berkeley Avenue, and the third happened about 12:45 a.m. Nov. 16 in the 600 block of East 68th Street, police said.

Anyone with information can contact detectives at (312) 747-8382.
