BRIEF: Police warn of carjackings on Northwest Side

April 22--Police are warning residents in the Albany Park, Jefferson Park and Portage Park neighborhoods on the Northwest Side of several carjacking incidents that happened in the area over the past week.

Three incidents happened between Monday and Wednesday, according to a Chicago Police Department news release.

The latest incident occurred at 9:18 p.m. Wednesday in the 5600 block of West Waveland Avenue, and two other carjackings took place on Monday. One incident happened in the 3600 block of West Argyle Street at 3:35 a.m., and the other occurred in the 5900 block of West Higgins Avenue at 6 p.m., according to the release.

In each incident, an unknown attacker or attackers approached the victim, displayed a handgun and stole the victim's vehicle, the release said.

Police encourage residents in the area to be aware of their surroundings and warn people they know about this pattern of crime in the area.

Anyone with information about the carjackings should contact Area North detectives at 312-744-8263.
