BRIEF: Police warn of attempted child luring near school on Near North Side

March 18--A man tried to lure a 12-year-old girl into his car early Tuesday morning in the Cabrini Green neighborhood on the Near North Side.

The girl was walking in the 500 block of West Elm Street near Jenner Elementary Academy of the Arts around 8:25 a.m. when a man approached her in a small white four-door sedan and tried to get her to come inside his car, according to an alert from the Chicago Police Department.

The girl ran away and alerted school security about the incident.

The suspect is described as a black man who is between 30 and 35 years old, according to the alert. The man has a dark complexion and may have a scratch on his face.

He had short black hair, was clean shaven and was wearing a dark hoodie, the alert said.

Police urge residents to alert neighbors in the area about the incident and call 911 if they see any suspicious people, vehicles or activity in their neighborhood.

Anyone with information about the suspect should call Area Central detectives at 312-747-8380.
