BRIEF: Police warn cellphone stores of robberies on West Side

Jan. 16--Police are warning cellphone stores in Austin and the Island neighborhood of recent robberies that happened over the past two weeks.

Three robberies happened between Jan. 2 and Friday, according to an alert from the Chicago Police Department.

In all incidents, unknown attackers entered a cellphone store, displayed a handgun and stole cellphones and cash, the alert said.

The latest robbery happened at 2:36 p.m. Friday in the 5900 block of West Roosevelt Road.

Two other incidents happened on the same 5800 block of West Madison Street. The first happened at 7:18 p.m. Jan. 2, and the second occurred at 5:37 p.m. Jan. 9, according to the alert.

Police have one to two suspects. They are described as black men between 30 and 39 years old. They are between 5-foot-5 and 6-foot-3 and weigh between 185 and 215 pounds.
