BRIEF: Chicago police: Thieves blocking road to rob motorists

April 01--Three or four young men have twice blocked 51st Street in Fuller Park near construction zones to stop cars and rob people, according to Chicago police.

The robberies took place at 6 p.m. Thursday and at 6:15 p.m. Sunday, police said, on 51st Street between the Dan Ryan Expressway and a construction project in the 400 block of West 51st.

In each case, the men blocked the street with a construction barrel, and when the drivers got out to move it, the robbers beat the victims and took property, police said.

Police described the attackers as men between 17 and 23 years old, 5-foot-11 to 6-foot-3 and weighing between 180 and 220 pounds.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incidents to call Area Central detectives at (312) 747-8382.
