Dec. 11--The Chicago Tribune Media Group's Lake County News-Sun: The Lake County State's Attorney's Office is reviewing aggravated battery charges against a 16-year-old Grant Community High School student Thursday after he allegedly stabbed another student six to eight times with a sharp wooden object.
Fox Lake police Lt. Mark Schindler said the weapon was not a pencil "but something wooden that he made into a pointed knife-like object."
The victim, a 15-year-old student, was taken to Centegra Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry for treatment Wednesday and was later released.
The incident occurred in a hallway during a passing period about 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, Schindler said. The older student allegedly came up behind the younger one and began repeatedly stabbing him with the wooden object, Schindler said.
While Schindler said he didn't know the exact motivation, "apparently they had some issues."
"It wasn't a random thing," he said.
Teachers and the school resource officer separated the students, police said. The 16-year-old was taken to the Depke Juvenile Justice System in Vernon Hills, where charges are being considered.
