BRIEF: Police shoot, kill man in Azusa

June 22--Police shot and killed a man Sunday on a residential street in Azusa, authorities said.

The shooting occurred in the 500 block of East Lee Drive shortly before 1 p.m., said Deputy Amber Smith of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, which is assisting Azusa police in the investigation.

The man was taken to a local hospital, where he later died, Smith said.

Officials did not disclose what led up to the shooting. No officers were injured, Smith said.

Detectives from the Sheriff's Department's homicide bureau are investigating the incident.

In the last 12 months, no person has been killed by police in Azusa, according to The Times' Homicide Report database. Since Jan. 1, 2000, three people have been killed by police in Azusa.
