BRIEF: Police seek driver who crashed stolen vehicle in Oak Forest

Jan. 22--Police were looking for a man who crashed a stolen car in southwest suburban Oak Forest early Thursday.

Oak Forest police officers responded to a report of a one-car rollover accident near 155th Street and Cicero Avenue around 2:30 a.m., said Oak Forest police Sgt. Scott Durano.

The driver of the car was not at the crash scene when officers got there and could not be found anywhere in the area, Durano said.

The car knocked over a ComEd utility pole, taking out "a lot of power" in the area that was later restored, Durano said.

Authorities learned that the crashed vehicle had been stolen in nearby Markham, Durano said.

The driver, who fled the scene in the southeast direction, was described as a black man in his 40s, who was wearing a white T-shirt and black pants, Durano said.

As of early Thursday, the area of the crash was nearly cleaned up, and all lanes of traffic were open, Durano said.
