BRIEF: Police respond to altercation in Darien strip mall

Dec. 04--More than 20 police, fire trucks and state police vehicles gathered in front of a strip mall Thursday night in west suburban Darien in response to an incident near a Walmart.

Darien Ald. Sylvia McIvor said a city official told her there was an altercation at a store in the sprawling strip mall along 75th Street.

People were being told to leave a nearby Aldi, according to a shopper who would not give his name. A few police vehicles were seen speeding away from the strip mall with emergency lights and sirens on.

One officer carrying what appeared to be a rifle was walking outside the Walmart. The parking lot at the Walmart has yellow police tape around it.
