BRIEF: Barricade situation ends in Gage Park neighborhood

Oct. 07--Chicago police were called to the scene of a barricade situation in the Gage Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side that lasted for ten hours.

About 9:15 a.m., officers were called to the 3400 block of West 54th Street for someone who had barricaded himself inside a home, according to Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago police spokesman, citing preliminary information.

The person, whose exact age was not available, apparently told someone he was going to harm himself, police said. Police responded to the home because someone called in a "person with a gun."

The Chicago Police SWAT team has been sent out to the scene. The situation ended before 7:30 p.m. with one person in custody. Additional details weren't immediately available.
