BRIEF: Police officers rescue 2 people from Chicago River downtown

Aug. 16--Chicago Police Marine Unit officers rescued a woman and a man who tried to swim across the Chicago River downtown early Sunday morning, police said.

Around 6:10 a.m., officers received a call of a person in the water and rescued a 32-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man from the main branch of the Chicago River, east of Columbus Drive, police said.

The man and the woman were trying to swim across the river when they started to have a hard time keeping afloat, police said.

Officers pulled the pair from the water. They both refused medical attention at the scene.

No other information about the incident was immediately available.
