BRIEF: Police officers injured in South Shore crash

July 15--Two Chicago police officers were injured in a car crash early Wednesday in the South Shore neighborhood, police said.

At about 1:10 a.m., two police evidence technicians were in a parked vehicle near the 7800 block of South Jeffery Boulevard when they were rear-ended, police said. Their vehicle hit an unoccupied police car ahead of them.

Both were taken to local hospitals, according to Officer Ron Gaines, a Chicago police spokesman. Authorities said the officers had head injuries.

The driver who struck the officers is in custody on suspicion of driving under the influence, Gaines said.
