Feb. 28--A motorist who allegedly stole a car from a senior citizen was killed during a fiery multi-vehicle crash Friday afternoon on the Southwest Side.
The age of the male victim was not immediately known, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. The person was dead on the scene, according to a spokesman for the office.
About 2 p.m., a Toyota was heading west in the 2400 block of 87th Street when it crashed into multiple vehicles, leaving its driver dead, Chicago police spokesman Officer Thomas Sweeney said.
Officers were not following the Toyota when it crashed.
According to a law enforcement source, the victim had allegedly stolen the Toyota from someone and while fleeing in it, he collided with a "car carrier," causing the Toyota to burst into flames.
