No bail for Markham man charged in fatal shooting in Ford Heights

April 13--A 21-year-old man has been ordered held with no bail after being accused of fatally shooting a man in south suburban Ford Heights in February, authorities said.

Shaquille E. Williams, of the 2900 block of Sussex Avenue in Markham, was charged with murder after being identified as the gunman in the Feb. 12 incident in the 1300 block of East Lincoln Highway, according to the Cook County sheriff's office.

In bond court Sunday afternoon at the Leighton Criminal Court Building, Cook County Associate Judge Adam Bourgeois told Williams "you are a danger" before ordering no bail.

Williams, wearing a white tank top, black pants and black gym shoes, at times shook his head during the hearing as if to say no. His defense attorney said Williams works in construction, is a high school graduate and lives with his dad and child.

Sheriff's police detectives learned the victim, Michael Armstrong, 35, of Harvey, was in the driver's seat of a 1999 Jeep Cherokee about 9:30 p.m. Feb. 12 when an unknown man approached the driver's side and shot him several times, according to the sheriff's office.

Paramedics took Armstrong to an area hospital where he died, the sheriff's office said.

Williams was taken into custody at his home April 9 and charged Saturday, authorities said.

Police learned of the shooting when they were flagged down by a person who said he thought someone was shot in the parking lot of "Sunny's,'' because he thought he saw a flash and then heard a bang, involving a tan Jeep Cherokee, according to a police report.

A clerk at Sunny's had also called 911 and when police got there they saw the Jeep parked with its engine running and spotted a man bleeding from the head slumped over onto the passenger seat, the report said. The Jeep's driver's side window was shattered and there was a "pool of blood dripping onto the ground from the front passenger side,'' the police report said.

Police said a witness saw a man in a gray hooded sweatshirt and black jogging pants run away in a "westbound direction'' from the area and into a wooded area behind a nearby auto body shop, the report said.

Williams is scheduled to appear in court again on Tuesday.
