BRIEF: Suspected bank robber who killed himself was former Atlanta police lieutenant

Nov. 20--The Chicago Tribune Media Group's Southtown Star reports: The man who robbed a Matteson bank of $4,200 last week and then fatally shot himself during a high-speed chase was a former Atlanta Police Department lieutenant, according to police.

Maurice Chester Dodd, 44, was fired from the Atlanta Police Department on Jan. 22 after being charged with drunken driving, Officer Ralph Woolfolk of the department's media relations department confirmed Wednesday in an email to the Southtown Star. Dodd had been with the department for 12 years, Woolfolk said.
