BRIEF: Cops: Report of man trying to lure girl into van was fake

Dec. 04--A report that a man tried to lure a 10-year-old girl into a van Tuesday evening on the Northwest Side was false, police said.

Police had issued a community alert late Tuesday saying that about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, a 10-year-old girl was walking in the 7000 block of West Bloomingdale Avenue in the Galewood neighborhood when a white van pulled up to her.

Wednesday evening, police issued a short statement that "Per the Detective Division it has been revealed that the attempt child luring is unfounded."
