BRIEF: Police: Man pulled from Lake Michigan dies

Sept. 13--A 36-year-old man has died after being pulled from the waters of Lake Michigan at 31st Street Beach early Sunday, Chicago police said.

The victim was walking along the shore with two companions when he went into the water about 11:55 p.m., Officer Ronald Gaines said.

The man became distressed, and someone called 911. Responding Marine Unit officers pulled him out of the water in critical condition but he later died at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, Gaines said.

It was not immediately clear why he went in the water, but foul play is not suspected.
