BRIEF: Police: Involuntary manslaughter charges filed after shooting death of girl, 14

Aug. 16--A 17-year-old boy has been charged in connection with the death of a 14-year-old girl who was fatally shot while they were playing with a gun Wednesday on the West Side, police said.

The boy, whose name was not being made public by police, was charged with involuntary manslaughter and is slated to appear for a hearing at the Leighton Criminal Court Building on Monday, police said.

The victim, Tracy Davis, 14, was found with a gunshot wound to the head around 2:20 p.m. Wednesday in the 700 block of North Homan Avenue in East Garfield Park. She was dead on the scene, officials said.

She and the teenage boy were playing with a handgun when the weapon discharged and she was fatally shot, according to a police statement. The offender fled the scene after the shooting, the statement said.

An autopsy Thursday was inconclusive and pending further studies, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. Tracy lived in the 4400 block of West Adams Street, about 2 1/2 miles away on the other side of Garfield Park, according to the office.

A gun was found on the scene, and the 17-year-old later turned himself in, police said.
