Murder charge filed in stabbing death of Woodstock man

Oct. 27--McHenry County authorities said a man has been charged in the stabbing death of his roommate in their Woodstock home Sunday afternoon.

Branden M. Napolitan, 26, also of Woodstock, was arrested Monday morning in Madison, Wis., according to the McHenry County Assistant State's Attorney Michael Combs. Napolitan has been charged with first-degree murder.

The victim was identified as Daryl K. Fox, 53. According to McHenry County Coroner Anne Majewski, an autopsy found that Fox died of injuries to the neck and lung.

Police found Fox's body in the home in the 600 block of Leah Lane about 12:30 p.m. Sunday. They went to the home after receiving a request for a well-being check, according to a news release from Woodstock police.

Woodstock police Deputy Chief John Lieb could not provide more details about a motive late Monday. He said "determining the full motive is still part of the ongoing investigation."

He said the men were roommates in the Woodstock home, and the well-being check was called in by "an acquaintance known to both the victim and suspect."

Police said they found the man dead "under circumstances that are suspected to be less than natural."

The investigation is being conducted by Woodstock police, the McHenry County Major Investigations Assistance Team, the coroner's office, the state's attorney's office and the U.S. Marshals office.
