BRIEF: Officials: Newborn girl found in Uptown died in homicide

Nov. 12--An autopsy Thursday afternoon determined a newborn girl who was found outside of a building in Uptown late Wednesday night died in a homicide.

The newborn was found in the grass outside a high-rise in the 800 block of West Eastwood Avenue at about 11:45 p.m., according to authorities.

Police said she was taken to nearby Weiss Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead. The baby was newborn, said Becky Schlikerman, spokeswoman for the Cook County medical examiner's office.

An autopsy determined the baby died of multiple blunt force injuries, she said.

Early Thursday, police officers cordoned off a section of the sidewalk outside where the girl was found. The officers shined flashlights on the grass and the sidewalk and took photos.

The baby's death has been ruled a homicide, Schlikerman said.
