BRIEF: Police investigate shooting death of 26-year-old man in Dolton

April 15--Dolton police and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force are investigating the fatal shooting Wednesday night in a residential neighborhood about four blocks from Thornridge High School.

Dolton Police Chief Robert Collins said Thursday Jarrah Alexander, 26, of Dolton was "unresponsive but alive" on the lawn in front of his home in the 14900 block of Irving Avenue when police arrived about 7:30 p.m. in response to multiple "shots fired" 911 calls.

Alexander had been shot once in the chest, Collins said. He was transported to Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, where he was pronounced dead, Collins said.

The Cook County medical examiner's office said Thursday Alexander died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

"We're following some potential leads," Collins said, adding investigators recovered several different caliber shell cases near the scene but "just don't know yet" what kind of weapon was used.

Collins said there were no known eyewitnesses to the shooting.
