BRIEF: Police investigate death of woman found after Northwest Side fire

May 20--Chicago police are investigating the death of a woman found after a fire in a Logan Square apartment Tuesday afternoon.

The woman's injury initially was reported to police as the death of a man found following a fire about noon in the 1900 block of North Washtenaw Avenue, according to police News Affairs. Although a death was reported to the Cook County medical examiner's office at that time, did not die until later Tuesday afternoon.

The woman was identified as Angela M. Carini, 37, of the apartment where she was found injured. She was pronounced dead at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center at 3:37 p.m. Tuesday.

Fire crews were called to the apartment in the 1900 block of North Washtenaw Avenue shortly after noon and took a woman to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition, according to Fire Department spokesman Chief Juan Hernandez.

The woman suffered what were believed to be traumatic injuries unrelated to the fire.

Hernandez said a cat was also found dead at the scene.

The fire was quickly extinguished, he said.

Area North detectives were investigating.
