BRIEF: Police investigate fatal shooting of Uber driver in Inglewood

March 21--Police are investigating the fatal shooting Sunday morning of an Uber driver who was on duty.

Shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday, the Inglewood Police Department received several calls of shots fired in the 3700 block of 109th Street. Officers found Andre Jamal Bayyan, fatally shot, sitting inside a vehicle, police said.

There is no information on a suspect at this point, police said. Bayyan is from Los Angeles.

An Uber spokesperson confirmed that Bayyan was a driver with Uber and was on a trip at the time, but did not give details on whether he was en route to pick up a passenger or was dropping one off.

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of Mr. Bayyan to this senseless act of violence," said Michael Amodeo, an Uber spokesperson. "Our thoughts and condolences are with his friends, families and loved ones."
