BRIEF: Police ID man killed in Arcadia drive-by

June 02--A man killed Sunday in an apparent drive-by shooting on a residential street in Arcadia has been identified as Yue Zhao, 56, of Arcadia, authorities said.

Zhao was walking south in the 1000 block of Fifth Avenue about 9 a.m. when a white sedan pulled up behind him and its driver opened fire, according to Lt. Tom Cullen of the Arcadia Police Department.

When Zhao tried to run away, the driver exited the car and fired several more shots at him. Security cameras from nearby homes captured the incident, Cullen said.

Zhao suffered a gunshot wound to his chest. He was pronounced dead at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena.

Arcadia's last slaying occurred in January 2014, Cullen said, when a father was suspected of stabbing his daughter-in-law. The affluent suburb 17 miles east of downtown Los Angeles rarely sees homicides, Cullen said -- an average of one or two a year.

Police are still searching for suspects and have not identified a motive or any gang connection, Cullen said.
