BRIEF: Police: Girl, 12, bitten by pit bull on Northwest Side

April 27--A 12-year-old girl was taken to a hospital Sunday night after a pit bull bit her in the Albany Park neighborhood, police said.

The girl was dog-sitting with her family in the 4900 block of North Troy Avenue about 6:10 p.m. when a pit bull began biting her in the arm, Officer Stacey Cooper said.

Officers responded and fatally shot the dog, Cooper said. The girl was taken to Presence St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where her condition had stabilized, Cooper said.

The animal's owner was issued two citations -- for not having a license and for failure to have proper rabies vaccination, Cooper said.
