BRIEF: Police: Fresno man attacks wife over Instagram selfies

May 04--A Fresno man has been jailed after he attacked his wife and fled with their 2-year-old child because she posted "selfies" on Instagram, police said.

Julio Benitez, 37, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of domestic violence and making threats after he became enraged when he noticed his wife posted pictures of herself on Instagram, Fresno police Sgt. Ray Villalvazo said.

When she tried deleting the selfies, Benitez lunged at her, choked her and threatened to kill her, he said. Benitez punched his wife several times in the face, head, arms and legs, Villalvazo said.

She was able to break free and ran away with her two children, ages 5 and 7. But her 2-year-old child remained behind.

Benitez took the child and fled before police arrived at the couple's home, he said.

Officers spent hours searching for Benitez and the child. Finally, with the help of family members, Benitez and the child returned to the couple's home.

The child was not harmed.
