May 19--Police exchanged shots with two people during a foot chase Monday after the officers heard gunfire in the Englewood neighborhood, according to authorities.
Officers responded to the 6100 block of South Laflin Street around 9:15 p.m. and saw two people running with objects in their hands. During a foot chase, shots were fired at and by police, authorities said.
One of the officers was injured when a suspect hopped a chain-link fence and the fence snapped back and hit the officer in the face and arm.
The officer hopped the fence and arrested the suspect, police said. The officer's injuries required stitches.
Officers blocked 62nd Street and searched nearby gangways and vacant lots. Two guns were recovered.
The shooting happened about a block from where a man was shot in the leg just early Monday.
Charges were pending against the two, police said.
