BRIEF: Man charged with fatally striking toddler while fleeing shooting

July 14--A South Side man has been charged with murder in the death of a 13-month-old boy who was hit by a car fleeing a shooting, authorities said.

Police say Antoine Watkins, 21, was in the car when it veered onto a sidewalk in the 6300 block of South Ellis Avenue and struck Dillan Harris as he sat in a stroller Saturday afternoon.

Watkins, of the 8100 block of South Bennett Avenue, was charged with murder and attempting to elude police. He was expected to appear in bond court Monday afternoon.

A witness said the car drove up on the sidewalk and "ran straight over" the stroller. "Baby wasn't even crying," Micah Ocana said.

Other witnesses said at least three people were in the car.

Police say the car was fleeing a shooting in the 7700 block of South Kingston Avenue around 1:40 p.m. Saturday, about 20 minutes before the boy was hit.

Marvin Carr, 22, was shot in the left hip and back. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead.

Carr was a rapper known as Capo and was an associate of rapper Chief Keef, according to a publicist who works with Chief Keef.
