BRIEF: Police: Domestic charges filed after man attacked off-duty cop, was shot

Dec. 23--A man was charged with domestic battery after he attacked a relative who is a Chicago police officer and she shot him in the shoulder at his home in the Belmont Heights neighborhood, police said.

James Holland, 52, of the 3800 block of North Octavia Avenue, was charged Tuesday with aggravated domestic battery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

Officers responded to a call of a person shot at the North Octavia address around 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Police said in a statement that the off-duty police officer shot Holland in the shoulder after he approached her with a knife.

He was taken to a hospital for treatment and placed in custody.

Holland appeared Tuesday in Domestic Violence Court and was ordered held in lieu of $100,000 bail, according to court records.

The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating the shooting.
