BRIEF: Police chase ends in Ontario with motorist jumping to his death

May 08--A 26-year-old Long Beach man jumped to his death after leading California Highway Patrol officers on a high-speed chase early Saturday that began in Claremont and ended in Ontario, authorities said.

The incident began about 12:50 a.m. when CHP officers attempted to pull over the man's 2008 Honda Civic that was headed east on the 10 Freeway in Claremont for an enforcement stop, according to a statement from the CHP.

The driver sped off, reaching speeds of over 120 mph, the CHP said.

The driver entered a connector ramp onto the northbound 15 Freeway, lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a guardrail, authorities said.

At that point, the driver hopped out the car, ran toward the guardrail and jumped from the overpass onto the westbound 10 Freeway below.

The man was struck twice by passing motorists, authorities said. His identity was not immediately available.

The Baldwin Park division of the CHP is investigating the incident. Anyone with information about the incident should call (626) 338-1164.
