BRIEF: Police: 3 men chase down, hold attacker after North Side robbery

May 20--A 19-year-old Southwest Side man is facing robbery charges after three men chased him down and held him until police arrived following a North Side attack Monday, police said.

Jaleel Johnson, 19, followed a 21-year-old woman into the vestibule of a building in the 3100 block of North Southport Avenue in the Lakeview neighborhood about 10 p.m. Monday, according to a news release from the Chicago Police Department.

Johnson, of the 6900 block of South Artesian Avenue, grabbed the woman, shoved her to the ground and stole her purse before running away, police said. Three men who saw the incident chased Johnson, caught him close to the crime scene and held him for police.

The woman identified Johnson as her attacker, and he was subsequently charged with one felony count of robbery, police said.

The woman did not want medical attention, police said, and her purse and its contents were returned to her.

Johnson is scheduled to appear in bond court Tuesday.
