March 30--Two men face charges after trying to bring handguns in their carry-on luggage through security checkpoints at the O'Hare International Airport on Friday.
Royal Bastian III, 68, was arrested after security officials discovered a loaded .22-caliber handgun inside his carry-on bag around 1:15 p.m., according to a statement from the Chicago Police Department.
Bastian, of 2200 block of West Princeton Avenue in Rockford, was charged with one misdemeanor count of carrying a concealed firearm in the airport.
His next court date is scheduled for May 8.
About 11:40 a.m. Friday, James Long, 50, was also arrested for trying to bring a gun through a security checkpoint, police said.
Security officials found a loaded .40-caliber handgun in Long's carry-on luggage when it was going through an X-ray machine.
Long, of the 11700 block of South Loomis Street in Chicago, was charged with one misdemeanor count of carrying a concealed firearm in the airport, according to Chicago police.
Long's next scheduled court date is May 6.
