BRIEF: Police: 2 dead in Willow Springs wreck

March 06--A 17-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man died when the sport utility vehicle they were in hit a tree early Saturday near unincorporated Willow Springs.

The 17-year-old has been identified as Jonathan Grabinski, of the 10600 block of Ridge Drive in Chicago Ridge, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The other victim was Salvatore E. Melant, 18, of the 4200 block of West 82nd Place in the Scottsdale neighborhood near Midway International Airport, according to the medical examiner's office.

The crash happened at 3:37 a.m. in the 9400 block of South Archer Avenue near Willow Springs, according to Cook County sheriff's office spokeswoman Sophia Ansari.

The two were in a 1999 Ford Explorer eastbound on a sharp curve along Archer when the driver lost control and hit a tree.

The Tri-State Fire Protection District had to extricate both people from the SUV and they were pronounced dead at the scene, Ansari said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by Illinois State Police officials.
