BRIEF: Plane makes emergency landing at LAX

May 17--A Delta Airline jet made an emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport on Sunday morning after experiencing mechanical problems, officials said.

Flight 1471A was scheduled to leave LAX at 5:35 a.m. for Atlanta, according to Delta's website. At 6:06 a.m., the pilot radioed "electrical smell in the cabin" of the Boeing 757, Delta spokeswoman Betsy Talton.

The plane returned to LAX "out of an abundance of caution," Talton said.

Six minutes later, the plane carrying 205 passengers, including the crew, landed safely at LAX, said Marshall Lowe, a spokesman for Los Angeles World Airports. The aircraft was taken out of commission for service and another plane was brought it to complete the flight. The new depart time is expected to be 4:30 p.m., Talton said.
