BRIEF: Pizza delivery driver dies day after Northwest Side shooting

Nov. 12--A pizza delivery driver has died after he was shot in the head on the Northwest Side over the weekend, officials said.

Abylbek Yzabekov, 31, was pronounced dead at 4:22 p.m. Tuesday at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Yzabekov, of the 5400 block of North East River Road, was shot early Monday morning during an apparent robbery, authorities said.

Yzabekov and a friend were delivering a pizza to a building on the same block where Yzabekov lived at about 12:25 a.m., police said. As Yzabekov got out of his car, two people approached and announced a robbery, police said.

One of the robbers had a handgun and opened fire, hitting Yzabekov in the head. The two fled without taking anything, police said.

Yzabekov was taken to Lutheran General in serious condition. His friend, who was sitting in the car during the shooting, was uninjured.

As of Wednesday morning, no one was in custody.
