BRIEF: Pick-up truck plows into Cicero Town Hall building

Jan. 16--A Dodge pick-up truck plowed into the front facade of the Cicero Town Hall building Saturday morning causing "extensive" damage, officials said.

About 9:30 a.m., the truck was involved in a traffic accident after the driver blew a red light at the intersection of Cermak Road and 50th Avenue. The truck then struck a Nissan that was traveling east on Cermak, said Ray Hanania, a Cicero Town spokesman.

The truck went through the intersection and struck a traffic light before slamming into the corner entrance of Cicero Town Hall, Hanania said in a news release.

Cicero Police Chief Jerry Chlada said there were no serious injuries reported and both drivers refused medical help.

The driver of the pick-up was cited with failure to stop at a red light, failure to yield to oncoming traffic and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. He also was cited for damage to public property, the release said.
