BRIEF: Phillies claim Jordan Danks

Jan. 16--Former Chicago White Sox outfielder Jordan Danks will receive a better shot at staying in the major leagues in 2015.

Danks, 28, was claimed off waivers Friday by the Philadelphia Phillies. Danks faced limited playing time in the past year with the addition of Adam Eaton and the Sox's recent free-agent signing of Melky Cabrera.

With the Phillies, Danks could serve as a backup to Ben Revere in center field.

Danks, the younger brother of Sox left-hander John Danks, batted .227 over parts of three seasons with the Sox. Danks was regarded as the Sox's best defensive outfielder.
