BRIEF: Philip Dawkins' 'Charm' gets Minneapolis premiere

March 23--Philip Dawkins' play "Charm," which premiered in a well-received production by Chicago's Northlight Theatre at the Steppenwolf Garage in October 2015, will open in Minneapolis next month.

"Charm" will play at Mixed Blood Theatre from April 22 through May 8 in a production directed by Addie Gorlin.

Based on an etiquette class at the Center on Halsted lead by African-American trans woman Mama Gloria Allen, "Charm" follows a group of LGBTQI students who end up in the classroom of a teacher who refuses to let them be anything less than their most charming selves.

The production will feature a cast of trans and cisgender actors including Nathan Barlow, Julienne "Mizz June" Brown, Rehema Mertinez, Ryan Colbert, Jay Eisenberg, Jennifer Waweru and Jay Simmons.

Mixed Blood Theatre is located at 1501 S. 4th St., in Minneapolis.
