BRIEF: Peyton Manning reportedly won't play in Pro Bowl because of injury

Jan. 18--Peyton Manning won't be returning to the Super Bowl this year, and it appears he won't be playing in the Pro Bowl either.

Manning told the Denver Post he won't be participating in next week's Pro Bowl in Glendale, Ariz., because of a lingering quad injury he suffered last month during a win over the San Diego Chargers.

Manning, who has been selected to play in the Pro Bowl 14 times, a record for a quarterback, said he takes the game seriously and would play if he was healthy. Manning has appeared in 11 Pro Bowls and has only missed the game when his teams were in the Super Bowl.

"I'm disappointed that I'm just not healthy enough this year to be part of it. It's going to be tough not being down there with the other guys, but it hasn't had enough time to heal."

Manning hasn't said publicly whether he will return for an 18th season after the Broncos' playoff loss last week to the Indianapolis Colts.

Manning passed for 4,727 yards and 39 touchdowns this season.
