BRIEF: Man killed by Metra train in Wilmette

April 29--Union Pacific North Line Metra trains were beginning to move after a train fatally struck a pedestrian Tuesday afternoon in Wilmette, Metra officials said.

Outbound trains scheduled to leave the Ogilvie Transportation Center are beginning to move as of 5:20 p.m. after delays were caused as a result of the accident, which happened at 3:50 p.m.

Normal operations were beginning, officials said. Officials had earlier begun to service stops between Ogilvie and Davis Street in Evanston, according to a spokeswoman.

Train No. 331 left Chicago at 3:20 p.m. and had been due to arrive in Winnetka at 3:56 p.m. when it struck the pedestrian, according to a Metra spokeswoman.

Inbound and outbound trains were being halted near Wilmette as the accident is investigated, officials said.

The man, Brian Higgins, 71, of the 100 block of Maple Avenue in Wilmette was pronounced dead at the scene.
