Feb. 13--A man who was stabbed during an altercation on Feb. 7 on the South Side has died from his injuries as police weigh upgrading charges against a girl charged in the case, according to police and an autopsy conducted Saturday.
Hassan Childs, 22, of the 7600 block of South Damen Avenue, was pronounced dead on Feb. 10 at 9:37 a.m. at Advocate Christ Medical Center, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
An autopsy conducted Saturday determined that Childs died of a stab wound to the chest and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the office.
Childs was stabbed in the chest with a knife about 1:15 a.m. on Feb. 7 when he became embroiled in a fight in the 7600 block of South Damen Avenue, police said.
According to police, a 15-year-old girl had gotten into an argument with Childs when the argument became physical and she allegedly stabbed him. The girl remained at the scene and was taken into custody.
The girl, whose name was not released because she is a juvenile, was initially charged with one felony count of aggravated battery and appeared in juvenile court this week.
Childs was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was initially listed in critical condition but later died.
