BRIEF: Pedestrian struck, killed on southbound 101 Freeway in Silver Lake

Nov. 11--Two lanes of the southbound 101 Freeway were shut down Tuesday morning at Silver Lake Boulevard after a pedestrian was struck and killed, the California Highway Patrol said.

A SigAlert for the No. 1 and 2 lanes was issued about 6 a.m. as authorities investigated the crash. The lanes were expected to remain closed until at least 7 a.m.

Officials described the victim as a 50-year-old woman. The driver whose vehicle hit her remained at the scene.

It's the latest in a series of fatal collisions this year involving pedestrians on the 101 Freeway between Hollywood and downtown L.A.

On July 8, a man was fatally struck by a car on the 101 just before 5 a.m. at Highland Avenue in Hollywood. And on Jan. 5, a man was killed after he was hit on the freeway in downtown L.A. near Alameda Street.
