BRIEF: Pedestrian killed by Metra train in Lisle

June 04--A pedestrian died Wednesday after being struck by a Metra train near the station in Lisle, according to Metra and the DuPage County coroner's office.

The train traveling east on the BNSF Railway struck the pedestrian about 5:30 a.m., according to a Metra spokesman. The pedestrian was struck by the train just west of the Lisle station near Burlington Avenue and Ashley Circle in unincorporated DuPage County near Lisle, according to Metra spokesman Tom Miller.

Both inbound and outbound trains on the BNSF line were halted after the incident. When the trains began running again, there were delays up to 40 minutes, Miller said.

The train that struck the pedestrian was carrying no passengers at the time of the crash. Instead, it was carrying equipment and was scheduled to serve as Train 1206, set to depart from the Fairview station, Miller said.

The DuPage County sheriff's department was handling the death investigation, according to a news release from the coroner's office. A message left with the sheriff's office seeking information was not immediately returned.
