BRIEF: Person killed by train in west suburbs

Dec. 29--One person is dead after being hit by a train in the west suburbs late Sunday night.

A "pedestrian incident involving a freight train" halted inbound and outbound trains on a stretch of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Metra line about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, according to a Metra alert. Trains between the Lisle and East Naperville stations were stopped.

Early Monday morning, the DuPage County Coroner's office confirmed that a person hit by the train had died.

Details surrounding the incident were not immediately available. About 2:15 a.m., Metra announced that Monday morning service would not be disrupted by the incident.
