BRIEF: Pedestrian, 86, killed in Morton Grove hit-and-run

Jan. 13--An 86-year-old man was killed Monday in suburban Morton Grove after he was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.

The man was walking near Shermer Road north of Harlem Avenue when he was struck by a driver, according to a statement from the Morton Grove Police Department.

The victim was taken to Lutheran General Hospital in serious condition and later died, Morton Grove police said.

He was later identified as Richard A. Mikulec, of the 7100 block of Foster Street in Morton Grove, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The accident scene on Shermer Road north of Harlem Avenue was temporarily blocked to traffic but was reopened just after 10 p.m., according to police.

The vehicle involved had not been found as of Monday evening, but police said it is believed to have front-end damage.

Anyone with information on the driver or the vehicle involved are encouraged to contact police at 847-470-5200.
