BRIEF: Pedestrian, 71, dies after being struck by teen driver on Christmas

Dec. 26--A 71-year-old man was struck and killed Thursday by a car driven by a teen in Orland Park, authorities said.

Jack Haggerty, of Orland Park, was crossing 104th Avenue near San Luis Lane about 7:30 p.m. when he was hit by a car, according to the Will County coroner.

He was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox and pronounced dead at 7:56 p.m., according to Orland Park police.

The driver and a passenger, both 16, had minor injuries and were taken to Silver Cross, police said. Police did not name the driver because he is a juvenile.

Orland Park police are investigating, and no citations or charges had been filed as of Friday afternoon, authorities said.

An autopsy was scheduled to be conducted Friday, and Robert J. Sheehy Sons Funeral Home in Orland Park is handling arrangements, the coroner said.
