April 09--Pasadena police shot a man Friday morning after he ran from a traffic stop and fired at an officer, authorities said.
Pasadena officers were conducting a traffic stop around 9 a.m. in the area of North Los Robles Avenue and Buckeye Street when one of the vehicle's occupants fled on foot, said police Lt. Jesse Carrillo.
The man pulled a gun and fired at an officer, who returned fire, said Lt. Steve Jauch of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, which is assisting Pasadena police on the investigation.
The man was struck in the upper torso and was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Jauch said. Officers recovered a handgun at the scene, he said.
No officers were injured, according to the Sheriff's Department.
Two other occupants fled in the vehicle, which was found abandoned several blocks away. They are still at large, Jauch said.
