BRIEF: Papa John's removes artificial flavors, colors from its menu

Jan. 13--The chain known for the tag line "better ingredients, better pizza" is putting its money where its pies are.

Papa John's says it has removed all artificial colors and flavors from its menu. It's joining a long line of chains that have moved toward more natural ingredients, but it's the first national pizza chain to remove them completely.

Pizza Hut removed all artificial flavors and colors from its core pizza products sold at U.S. restaurants in July, but they are still present in other menu items, a spokesman said. Domino's use some dough conditioners, preservatives and fillers, according to its website.

A number of other chains, from Panera to Taco Bell, have moved to strip out artificial flavors and colors from their menus in the face of growing consumer demand for natural foods.
