BRIEF: Palos Park Dunkin' Donuts burglarized

July 28--A burglar pried open the rear door of the Dunkin' Donuts shop in Palos Park early Sunday but only managed to get away with some coins and less than $20 in cash, police reported.

The burglary at the shop, 11901 S. 80th Ave., occurred sometime before 6 a.m., according to police, who said were reviewing video of the incident that shows the burglar dressed in black and wearing gloves.

In March, police in the west suburbs investigated a series of break-ins at Dunkin Donuts shops in Aurora, Yorkville, Oswego, St. Charles and Batavia.

At the time, police in those towns said they believed those burglaries might have been committed by the same mask-wearing burglar. The man in those cases stole undisclosed amounts of cash but typically left empty handed if money wasn't easily accessible, authorities said.

It's not yet clear whether the Palos Park incident is related to those burglaries, Police Chief Joe Miller said.

"We are speaking with those towns now to clarify similarities," Miller said.
